Kripalu Yoga uses classic Hatha yoga postures, breath work, mindfulness, and relaxation. What defines Kripalu Yoga is its emphasis on following your energy, practicing compassionate self-acceptance, developing witness consciousness, and taking your experience of yoga into your daily life. Kripalu Yoga is adaptable for all body types, ages, fitness levels, and interests and takes into account each person’s unique body, individuality and personal expression.

Yin Yoga uses postures to stretch and stimulate the deep connective tissues of the body. Yin yoga postures are done on the floor with the muscles released and are held for 3 to 5 minutes. This intense and introspective practice increases your flexibility, opens your joints and enhances your sense of presence.  It is truly a mindfulness practice of letting go of both the physical and mental tensions we store inside.

Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga use active relaxation to “massage your body from the inside out”. By liberally supporting you with props, Lynda will alternately stimulate and relax your body to move toward balance. Restorative and Therapeutic yoga are particularly beneficial for those times when you feel weak, fatigued, stressed, or are moving through a difficult life transition, illness or injury: or when you simply want to be nurtured in a deeply relaxing environment. Lynda may integrate some gentle yoga movements, breath work, iRest guided meditation or hands-on healing in the tradition of Thai Yoga Massage into these classes.

In Empowering Yoga Lynda applies of the principles of a trauma-sensitive approach to yoga developed by the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute and by Warriors at Ease as well as those of the iRest® guided meditation protocol.  These programs apply specific principles to the practice of yoga and meditation designed to alleviate symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and trauma and to increase the resilience of critical task performers working in high stress environments.  Lynda creates a safe environment through invitational, exploratory and accepting language. These classes are specifically designed for people who suffer from stress and anxiety and who have suffered trauma such as military, veterans, first responders, emergency room staff, care-givers, and affected  family members.  Lynda is the first to bring this program to Ottawa and is able to schedule classes specifically for you or your group.  Please contact Lynda if this program interests you.  All questions and comments are welcome and are completely confidential.

iRest® (Integrative Restoration) is a guided meditation practice.  It is integrative in that it heals the various negative emotions, beliefs and traumas that are present in the body and mind, and restorative in that it reveals your underlying innate ground of equanimity, peace and well-being. The iRest protocol was developed to support the healing of trauma survivors and is appropriate for anyone seeking awareness and inner peace. Individual and group programs and classes are available. Lynda’s approach is very flexible and can be adapted to your needs.

Cultivate your meditation practice program explores the underpinnings of meditation, introduces you to a variety of meditation techniques and provides practice and discussion time.
