Lynda is a registered yoga teacher and a member of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association. She is also certified to teach Yin Yoga and Therapeutic Yoga.
Like most yoga styles, Kripalu Yoga uses classic Hatha yoga postures (though not a particular set or flow), specific breath work, development of a quiet mind, and the practice of relaxation. What defines Kripalu Yoga is its emphasis on following the flow of energy, practicing compassionate self-acceptance, developing witness consciousness, and taking your experience of yoga into your daily life. Kripalu Yoga is designed to adapt to all body types, ages, fitness levels, and interests and takes into account each person’s unique body, individuality and personal expression.
Yin Yoga uses postures to stretch and stimulate the deep connective tissues of the body. Yin postures are done on the floor with the muscles relaxed and are held for 3 to 5 minutes. This intense and introspective practice increases your flexibility, opens your joints and large muscles and enhances your overall sense of well-being. It is truly a practice of letting go of both the mental and the physical tensions that we store inside.
Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga use active relaxation to “massage your body from the inside out”. By liberally supporting you with props, Lynda will alternately stimulate and relax your body to move toward balance. Restorative and Therapeutic yoga are particularly beneficial for those times when you feel weak, fatigued, stressed, or are moving through a difficult life transition, illness or injury: or when you simply want to be pampered in a deeply relaxing environment. Restorative and Therapeutic yoga have a meditative and calming effect on your body and mind. Therapeutic yoga integrates restorative yoga poses with gentle yoga movements, breath work, guided meditation and hands-on healing in the tradition of Thai Massage.
Weekly Kripalu and Yin yoga classes are currently offered on Tuesdays from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and 7:15 pm to 8:30pm. Therapeutic yoga classes are offered weekly on Thursdays from 10:00am to 11:00am. Soon, these may also be offered on Thursdays from 7:15pm to 8:30pm.
